GFA were subcontracted by Holmes Miller Architects provide Quality Assurance services to the Olympic Delivery Authority for construction of Royal Artillery Barracks completed in time for London 2012 Olympic Games.
The Copper Box has 7,000 seats. It was used for handball preliminaries and modern pentathlon fencing during the Olympic Games, and for goalball during the Paralympic Games. The venue is currently being adapted to become a multi-sport arena for community use, athlete training and small-to-medium scale events.
GFAs responsibilities on both these projects included: site inspections; reviewing contractor’s proposals; witnessing testing of the new systems; issuing defect notices and monitoring the closure of defects; advising the CLM project manager and reporting to the ODA Sponsor/client on a regular basis.
The experience on this project has given us detailed knowledge of the requirements of designing a Handball/ multi purpose arena for 7000 spectators.
